Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is looking to concentrate locations while increasing services outside of the Windy City.

The hospital said it is willing to pony up $56 milion to build a three-story, 70,000-square-foot facility at 3 Hillcrest Boulevard in Schaumburg, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. The new site will replace three smaller outpatient facilities in Arlington Heights, Hoffman Estates and Huntley.

Lurie is in contract to buy the Schaumburg property for $2.6 million from a partnership between GSP Development president Larry Debb and Marc Realty principals.

Hospital officials requested state approval to begin construction on the vacant site at Roselle Road near the I-90 tollway by early 2024. The Illinois Health Facilities & Services Review Board, which evaluates health care proposals, said it has tentative plans to review the proposal on Dec. 13.

The hospital’s report indicated that it has run out of room at its satellite facilities and fears that could lead to insufficient patient care.

The new facility will include 40 exam and treatment rooms for pediatric primary and specialty care, diagnostic imaging and cardiac testing. There will also be a pharmacy, blood bank and ambulatory infusion center. In addition to surface parking lots for 250 vehicles, there will also be space that could be used for future expansion.

Luri’s lease with Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights expires next September. Since Lurie doesn’t have a partnership agreement with NorthShore University Health System, which owns Northwest, hospital officials decided to go for the new facility in Schaumburg.

Lurie will extend its lease in Arlington Heights until the new facility opens and will close the Hoffman Estates and Huntley offices at the same time.

The hospital has 21 satellite offices across the Chicago area and a main location at 225 East Chicago Avenue.
