Chicago’s Boeing Building is losing another tenant.

Kennedys Law LLP said it’s moving to another West Loop location, downsizing from an almost 10,000-square- foot space on the 36th floor of the CME Center at 30 South Wacker Drive, from the Boeing-owned building at 100 North Riverside Plaza.

Real estate brokerage Savills represented the global law firm in relocating the Chicago office, a move set to take place in October. Kennedys plans “a dynamic new space that will maximize in-person collaboration and contain areas for private conferencing,” John Goodman of Savills said in a statement.

Kennedys acquired about 14,000 square feet in the Boeing building in 2017, retaining the office after merging with insurance firm Carroll McNulty & Kull, five years before the aerospace company said in May that it will move its corporate base to Arlington, Virginia, from Chicago. A week after Boeing’s announcement, the building’s second-largest tenant, location data company Here Technologies, put 95,000 square feet of the building’s 10th and 11th floors on the office sublease market.

New York developer Tishman Speyer owns the CME Center, two 40-story-story office towers overlooking the Chicago River. The firm recently completed a large-scale renovation that includes a redesigned lobby, tenant lounges, a conferencing center, upgraded fitness facilities and food and beverage options. Savills said that space fit the law firm’s desire for a new location in an upgraded setting to help with employee recruitment and retention.

“The location at CME Center allows the firm the ability to be in the center of the business district, offers world-class amenities to its employees and provides flexibility for growth,” Goodman said.

It wasn’t clear whether the relocation represented a downsize in square footage for the firm, as has happened with other companies that have moved in the nation’s second-largest central business district in recent months. In addition to Here Technologies, which adopted a hybrid work policy, public relations firm Edelman offloaded almost 80,000 square feet of office space in the building next door to the Boeing Building in November.
