April showered Illinois marijuana retailers with sales.
Statewide cannabis dispensaries reported nearly $115 million in recreational pot purchases last month, another record for the expanding market, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The latest total is about $6 million more in sales than pot shops had rung up in March, which was itself a record, according to data from the state Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
Medical marijuana sales were not reported.
Illinois’ nascent recreational cannabis industry has grown steadily since the statewide law took effect January 2020, though it got off to a slow start because of the pandemic.
The state’s 110 licensed dispensaries recorded about $80 million in recreational pot items sold to Illinois residents, with $35 million from out-of-state buyers, the Tribune reported.
In the first year that recreational weed was legalized, the state recorded over $1 billion in purchases. That number is expected to go higher this year.
