The most expensive home in Chicago comes with a 2019 tax bill to match.

Hedge fund mogul and real estate collector Ken Griffin in July will receive a $1.3 million tax bill on his $58.75 million spread at No. 9 Walton, according to Crain’s.

At this time last year, when the condo at JDL Development’s ultra-luxury tower was not yet finished, his 2018 tax bill came in at about $139,000, the outlet reported.

The two highest tax bills for 2019 all went to co-op buildings, including 1500 N. Lake Shore Drive ($3.2 million for 57 units) and 209 E. Lake Shore Drive ($2.7 million for 34 homes).

The Citadel boss’ home, spread across four floors that collectively span 25,000 square feet, is the most expensive residence in Illinois by a healthy margin. Griffin closed on the condo in early 2018 and received approval to expand the home by 7,000 square feet. The home reportedly comes with a private pool.

In the last few years, Griffin has spent an absolute fortune on luxury real estate. He has acquired a record-breaking $238 million apartment in Manhattan at 220 Central Park South, a $99 million Palm Beach estate and a $122 million mansion in London. [Crain’s] — James Kleimann
