Couple lists sprawling Hinsdale mansion for $6M. But numbers aren’t on their side.

James and Mary Conlan bought the home from Pampered Chef founder Doris Christopher in 2014 for $3.3M

James and Mary Conlan think they can double their money on a Hinsdale mansion they purchased in 2014.

The 16-room mansion at 323 Hillcrest Avenue was previously owned by Pampered Chef founder Doris Christopher. Christopher and her husband purchased the mansion in 2003 for just over $6.3 million. After the couple split in 2012, they listed the home for $6.8 million but ended up selling the mansion to the Conlans in 2014 for just $3.3 million.

The 12,000-square-foot home was put on the market for just under $6 million on Tuesday, and it appears to be the most expensive home on the market in the Chicago suburb. The next most expensive listing is a 12,500-square-foot house at 428 E. 1st Street, listed at $5 million.

Built in 1956, this colonial-style home has six bedrooms, eight bathrooms and a five car garage. The two-acre property is complete with amenities such as a swimming pool, a marble-floor foyer as well as walk-in closets. The home has been renovated multiple times. The Conlands tapped Compass’ Kris Berger to sell the property.

Unfortunately for the Conlans, the luxury home market has been in a slump over the last year. Home sales have been slow and many luxury buyers have been moving downtown as new condo projects like No. 9 Walton have hit the market.

It’s been particularly rough in the suburbs, as The Real Deal previously reported. According to Redfin data, no home in Hinsdale sold for over $3.9 million in 2019. In fact, only three homes in the town have sold for over $4 million since 2017, and none over $5 million. [Chicago Tribune] — Jacqueline Flynn
