Going green in Chicago now means much more than dyeing the Chicago River every St. Patrick’s Day.

The city was ranked the greenest place for office space in America for the third year in a row, according to Bloomberg, citing a study from CBRE. It has 71.1 percent of office space certified green, an increase from 70 percent last year and 66 percent two years ago.

CBRE began publishing the study in 2017, and Chicago has topped the list every year so far. San Francisco came in second this year with about 67.5 percent of office space certified green.

Los Angeles was in fifth place with 57 percent, and Manhattan was in seventh place with 49 percent.

“The next frontier is going to be taking these older buildings and finding ways to make them green and sustainable,” CBRE’s chair of Americas Research Spencer Levy told Bloomberg. “Chicago has some of the oldest office property in the U.S., and you are starting to see more complete retrofits.” [Bloomberg]Eddie Small
