Luxury jeweler Van Cleef & Arpels will move into a 27,000-square-foot retail space in the Gold Coast after an interior renovation that began this year.

New York-based Jenel Management Corporation applied for a permit for a sign for the retailer in the retail space at 59 East Oak Street, according to city records.

It’s part of a retail strip that previously included a handful of small storefronts leased by luxury retailers like Jimmy Choo and Alexis Bittar, but Jenel began a “major redevelopment” earlier this year aimed at transforming the space into “one the most iconic retail luxury developments in Chicago,” according its website.

In March, Jenel secured permits for interior renovations and a new facade for the four-story brick complex, records show. Jenel’s portfolio also includes 7,000 square feet in the adjacent building at 57 East Oak Street, which the website also says is slated for “major redevelopment.”

Jenel lists 19 total Chicago properties in its portfolio, including a cluster of retail spaces near the crowded six-way intersection of North, Damen and Milwaukee avenues in Wicker Park.

The Gold Coast boutique would be the second Chicago location for Van Cleef & Arpels, which operates a store at 933 North Michigan Avenue on the Magnificent Mile.

The Gold Coast is home to some of the priciest homes in Chicago, including the condos inside JDL Development’s tower at 9 West Walton Street, where units routinely sell above $5 million.

Representatives of Jenel and Van Cleef & Arpels did not immediately respond to requests for comment Wednesday.
