RDM Development reduced the height of a planned Wicker Park apartment building after community opposition to a previous proposal for a 16-story building.
The Chicago-based company now wants to build a 13-story, 121-unit building on a vacant lot near the Polish Triangle at 1628 West Division Street, according to Block Club Chicago.
The number of units would remain the same as in the 16-story proposal by increasing the number of studios (now 29) and one-bedrooms (now 55), the developer said. The building would also have 27 two-bedrooms, 10 three-bedrooms and 36 parking spaces.
Some 18 of the apartments would be affordable to comply with city housing rules.
The Chicago Plan Commission approved the 16-story plan in March but Alderman Joe Moreno (1st) didn’t bring it to a vote of the full City Council in light of community opposition, he told Block Club.
The building would rise near the site of Vermilion Development’s “The Alcove M.D.P.,” a planned residential complex with 43 condos and 12 townhouses, and down the block from an eight-story, 99-key hotel under construction. [Block Club] — John O’Brien
