JAB Realty plans to convert a Lakeview church parish house into apartments.
The city’s Commission on Landmarks was expected to consider today a proposal to confer landmark status on St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 621 West Belmont Avenue, and its parish house as part of JAB’s plans to convert the second building into rental apartments, according to Crain’s.
JAB principal Jim Jann said he plans to rehab the red brick parish house, erected in 1926, into 20 one- and two-bedroom units. The church itself was built in 1895.
“It’s our intent to leave historical elements where they are or move them to where they can be reused,” Jann told Crain’s. The project will be designed by Chicago’s Space Architects + Planners.
Landmarking is a step in the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago’s plan to sell the building to JAB. An aide to Ald. Tom Tunney said he supports conferring landmark status on the buildings.
Monthly rents have not been set, and neither Jann nor a representative of the diocese would disclose financial terms of the planned sale. [Crain’s] — John O’Brien
