St. Roch Market food hall concept eyeing McDonald’s HQ retail space

Chicago would be the third city for the New Orleans-based market

Fulton Market’s been known for its restaurants for years, and a growing chain of food halls is looking to join the scene.

New Orleans-based St. Roch Market is nearing a deal for retail space on the western end of Sterling Bay’s soon-to-open 600,000-square-foot McDonald’s corporate headquarters in the Fulton Market District.

The food hall’s address, if the deal is finalized, would be 110 North Carpenter Street, though its spread would face Aberdeen Street, according to Crain’s.

The market could occupy as much as 27,000 square feet. The building’s total retail footprint is about 44,000 square feet, and Walgreens and FedEx are among tenants that have signed leases.

In addition to its original location in New Orleans, St. Roch recently opened a market in Miami.

St. Roch would join Time Out Media’s planned 50,000-square-foot hall, spread across three levels, at 916 West Fulton Market. It’s scheduled to open next year.

It’s not clear whether the St. Roch name will travel north, since the City of New Orleans is suing the market’s owners for taking the name to Miami. The city financed a renovation of the food hall’s original space before it opened in 2014. [Crain’s] — Scott Klocksin
